Shadow Dungeon Classes: All 4 Classes & 12 Talent Trees

The Official Class Count: 4 (Not 5)

The Steam description is explicit: “The game offers 4 unique classes, 12 distinct talent trees, and hundreds of skills.” Some early fan sites list Paragon as a fifth class — it isn’t. Paragon is the post-cap talent tree every character unlocks at level 100 (details on our Paragon page).

Class Overview

ClassStyleOfficial one-liner
SorcererElemental caster”Master elemental magic as a sorcerer”
Holy WarriorDual-blade melee”Wield dual blades as a holy warrior”
ArcherRanged precision”Strike with deadly precision as an archer”
NecromancerSummoner”Summon demons and skeletons as a necromancer”

Each class runs 3 talent trees (12 total game-wide) and shares the same loot pool structure: 15 class sets per class, with most set affixes altering skill forms — the same skill can play completely differently in different sets.

Sorcerer

The elemental caster with the widest area coverage. Sorcerer benefits most from the 1.0 affix system’s Skills category — weapon-granted casts stack onto an already AoE-heavy kit. Squishier than the other three; defensive affix rolls matter. Ranked A on our tier list.

Holy Warrior

Dual-blade melee with the most straightforward power curve. Shield-type weapon skills from the 1.0 update (shields that block enemy projectiles) patch its main weakness: eating ranged damage while closing distance. Forgiving in the campaign; gear-checked earliest in Inferno rifts.

Archer

Precision ranged damage with strong single-target focus. The 1.0 controller improvements (auto target acquisition, per-skill intelligent targeting) noticeably smooth Archer’s kiting loop. Trap Launcher weapon skills — a new 1.0 skill type — are a natural fit.

Necromancer

The summoner, and our pick for smoothest campaign class. Two of the five affix categories (Summoning Skills; plus summon-attack and summoned-creature-accessory weapon skills) exist specifically to scale minions. Your skeletons tank while you learn boss patterns — see the bosses page.

Talent Trees vs Weapon Skills

A build in Shadow Dungeon is three layers:

  1. Talent tree — pick one of your class’s 3 trees as a spine (respec rules permitting, experiment freely).
  2. Weapon-granted skills — 2,400 exist; weapons can carry auras, conversions, combo launchers and more.
  3. Sets and affixes — 15 sets per class, most altering skill behavior.

The builds page walks through how the layers combine per class.
